What do we do?

Within our foundation, we help children in various ways. Providing food, education and sports daily.

Food

CBA provides children healthy and balanced meals and explains nutrition, table etiquette and personal hygiene.

Education

The children receive education from certified teaching staff. The teachers supervise the education part and also provide the necessary support to the other employees. The way of education is done in consultation with management, which also involves a remedial teacher.

Sport

We guide the children with professional trainers to a high level in the field of sports in order to realize a scholarship. We currently only offer baseball but we are working on providing other sports.

How do we do this?

The children are picked-up after school and transported to our premise. We provide them with a daily schedule.

Schedule
. 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM - School pick-up
. 01:00 PM - 02:00 PM - Lunch
. 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM - Homework support
. 04:00 PM - 06:00 PM - Sports

CBA offers children from less fortunate families, with an interest in sports, the opportunity to develop themselves with an emphasis on general knowledge and skills including computers, art, music, sports activities, additional languages, lessons about government, construction and technology lessons.

The founders

Arjen van der Meulen.png

In August 2015, Mr. Arjen Van Der Meulen and Mr. Jair Quant started realizing their idea for “The Curaçao Baseball Academy”. A Baseball Academy specially founded for the less fortunate children of Curaçao.

The reason for this is the reality that children lag behind in their development, especially in the areas of education, nutrition and upbringing, as a result of a shortage of financial resources within the home/family.

Our motivation

Children in poverty are worse off in all sorts of areas. There is less money for development and recreation. Membership of an association, celebrating a birthday or participating in school excursions is also not self-evident. This increases the risk of social exclusion. Children living in poverty are more negative about their lives and future than their more affluent peers.

Life offers them too little stability and security. This makes it more difficult to have a good future perspective. However, parents also often suffer from stress, feel less and less psychologically well and become insecure about their role as parent and educator. A social safety net can ensure that parents can just make ends meet and it provides support with raising children.

The future of the foundation

The start of the foundation

The first kids

The foundation was launched in 2015 with the aim of creating opportunities for underprivileged children.

The first group consisted of 10 children. The young people were admitted based on an intake interview with the environment and school. We have now grown to 18 young people.

The first scholarships

Nair Jamanika is our first scholarship student. A “down to earth, humble and respectful” boy.
Nair had achieved his AGO level on Curacao, which is considered the lowest level possible on the VSBO here on Curacao. But he endured everything and worked hard with strength and soul and thereby became a most exemplary student at The Kings Academy in Seymour, Tennessee. In addition, during his study years he developed into one of the best baseball players at his school and was even selected for the All-District team. (comparable to the Region selection)
